Q. Will my pellet stove handle grass pellets?
A. Maybe, maybe not. Grass pellets have slightly more ash content then wood pellets and some stoves will not handle the extra ash efficiently. Typically, multi fuel stoves work the best on grass.
Q. Are the ashes toxic in any way?
A. No. They actually have a small fertilizer benefit when spread on the land.
Q. Don’t they stink when burning?
A. Grass pellets are extruded at the same density as any other pellets and burn just as clean as wood pellets.
Q. Do I need to put up a chimney?
A. Not for most stoves and furnaces. Pellet burners are so efficient, a direct vent through an outside wall is all that is needed, although they can be vented through an existing chimney.
Q. Is there an outside furnace option?
A. Yes, There are outside furnaces that burn just as efficiently as their inside counterparts. There are also automatic feed bins to handle many days worth of pellets.
Q. How much will it cost to heat my space with pellets?
A. One way to figure is; It takes 17 lbs. of pellets to equal the heat in one gallon of fuel oil, so for instance, if you used 250 gallons of oil you will use approx. 2.2 tons of pellets at a cost of around $ 495.00.
