Pellet Supply/Demand – The Daily Star
August 21, 2008
In the August 21 edition of The Daily Star an interesting article discussing the supply and demand of pellet heat and pellet stoves is featured.
“The high price of oil has driven demand for pellet stoves, according to area stove retailers.
But the pellets to fuel the stoves are in short supply, and a leading pellet supplier is advising consumers to limit their purchases…..”

I am working with a group of farmers that are investigating the possibility of making grass pellets in Sackville, NB Canada. There is a person in Pictou,NS, Canada that has developed a furnace to burn grass pellets without any ash. His name is Gus Swanson. I hope to visit his shop this month and see how his furnace operates. Could you give me some information on what type of equipment that you are using to make the hay pellets and the amount of pellets that you can make per day with the equipment that you are using? Thanks! John Killoran
John,
We are extremely interested to hear any thing you discover from your visit to Gus Swanson’s.
We are using a hay buster, auguring into a self unloading wagon and then into a hammer mill. The pelleter is a Sprout Waldron 21V. We hope to make about 1and 1/2 ton per hour once we get all the kinks out.
We look forward to hearing about your visit!

I am looking for a proven bioburning stove and or furnace. Mainily a stove that will burn wood, grass or corn. I’m from southern Vermont interested in a possible dealership for stoves.
Brian,
Thank you for your comment – it is a “hot” topic right now within the bio-fuel community.
A professor at Cornell University [Dr. Cherney] has been checking out different stoves, furnaces, and boilers for a number of years. He has recommended the “Quadrafire” as a good stove to burn grass pellets. We have installed a “Maxim” boiler, made by Central Boiler, at our pelleting facility and it has successfully burned even our poorest quality grass pellets.
Please understand that we are not personally guaranteeing that either of these will work for you.
Thanks again,
EE Family
